I shouldn’t think they were hard to find..
I’ve finally got round to performing a little experiment..
In a standard German pouch, they simply do not fit.
In a German example with the dividers removed, they are little better..
The Soviet type is, naturally, rather wider to accommodate the clips, to provide a total load of 20 rounds per two-pocket pouch.
Eight loose cartridges can be fitted neatly into the German type, thus giving a total of 24 rounds per three-pocket pouch.
(I took photographs of each test, but I do not wish to clutter this magnificent thread with an irrelevant diversion).
Back to the subject in hand..

Part souvenir, perhaps to replace a damaged Soviet issue one, preference over load capacity.. There could be any number of reasons. Forgive me if I don’t see it as such a big issue or mystery.
I shall PM the images for the reason I have stated above..
All the best,
Bob
