Hi
a belgian's soldier in the big red one
cheers, pegase
This is a pic of my Uncle Joe while attached to the 384th Bomb Group ,545th Bomb Squadron. He flew with several different crews as a Top Turret gunner, Waist gunner , Toggeler, and found his spot with the Fioretti Crew( Guy with the Killer mustache) as the Tailgunner. This pic was taken in front of the Dammed YankeeII just after a mission in that A/C . My Uncle was shot down in the B17 "Mrs Geezil"on the April 13th 1944 Schweinfurt mission(4KIA.6POW) He spent the rest of the war in Stalag17B. My unlce is bottom row second from the right. The Gent to his left is Phillip Chaperon the Left Waist Gunner and the man who gave me this pic!!!My uncle passed in 72 but Phil is alive and well and have been a great source of info about their service and what happen that day during the attack by FW190's and ME109's that lasted from 13:54 to 13:57. In 3 minutes they shot down 6 out of 7 A/C from the 545th. I was also lucky enough to have made contact with the pilot Dewayne "Ben " Bennett of the lone 545th A/C of that mission that made it back that day. For his story and a great read BING " The last Man Standing"
