No way I can tell for sure, but if I had to guess I would say it's him.
Wow,thanks fellas.
What a thrill to find a picture of him in the field
Now ill just have to try and find the original or try to resize it successfully.
Cheers Mick
Gday Mick, I was always under the impression that this photo was the 2/27th battalion taken just after the fighting on brigade hill. This photo is in Peter Brune's book " those ragged bloody heros" with the caption - exhausted survivors of the 2/27th battalion.
regards Paul
Very similar!..
Just went on the Australian war memorial sight this is photo 027017, with the caption
PAPUA, NEW GUINEA. 1942-10. MEMBERS OF THE 2/27TH AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY BATTALION AS THEY REACHED THE OUTPOST AT ITIKI, AFTER BEING OUT OF TOUCH WITH OTHER TROOPS FOR 13 DAYS. THEY HAD HAD VERY LITTLE FOOD AND WERE IN BAD SHAPE WHEN THEY CAME IN.
Although he does look a bit like your Grandfather. I find it very hard to pick faces out of these old black and white photos. I have several photos of my Grandfather are hard to distinguish
