Rethinking my last comment;

The MkII may not be 'issue' per se, but available at PX's, with many
soldiers prefering to obtain or supplement with 'private purchase'
or commercial knives.

In many ways the old MkII is outdated, but supposedly still favoured
by the U.S. Marines, perhaps it's only dedicated user, however,
my well used Camillus MkII was obtained indirectly from an
ex Canadian Army soldier.......

Yes, I would guess this one is from WWII.

There is appropriate age, and this type of 'blackening' is what one would expect
to see. The sheath is the correct type for the era, and the handle is polished leather.

I believe that at some point, any and all info was stamped on the crossguards,
then reverted back to blade marking after the war, as it is more conspicuous.

There are several books on the subject of US Military fighting/utility knives.
'Silvey and Boyd' are authors that are currently in print that are worth reading.
I guess there is plenty of info on the Net as well, but I have not searched......


Here is the other type of sheath associated with the Camillus US Navy MkII knife.
This is a guard marked version. The scabbard is marked 'NORD' = Navy Ordnance.

Here is my USN KA-BAR WWII vintage. I bought this from the vets family they let it sit in a cellar a little tolong.

Don't forget that all these knives made great utility/camping/etc knives
at home after the war up until now as well......!

The Camillus referred to by the original poster was made between 1962 and February 1974. You can tell from the stamping ('U.S.' over 'Camillus, NY'). I have one just like it. Mine was purchased as surplus from the U.S. Marine Corps and is from the Vietnam era.
