Default Lithgow Pattern 1907 bayonet, 1916 made.

In response to Andersons’s very nice 1940 made Lithgow 1907 Pattern bayonet that he posted earlier today, I present a 1907 pattern Lithgow manufactured bayonet made during the Great War in 1916. This example was given to me by my late grandfather in 2006 when he was 89 years old. An Australian WW2 veteran, he had purchased it from a junk shop as a young child for virtually nothing. I’d seen and admired it from time to time in the bottom of a cupboard until he told me one day that he had something for me.

I’m not a student of bayonets at this point but like a lot of other collectors, look forward to further exploration later on in this hobby that just keeps giving. Thus, I can’t say a lot aside from the above description and the scabbard which was made by Frost & Holden in 1915 for a member of the 8th Australian Light Horse regiment. I note that the end of the scabbard has a small stamped star, the significance I’m not sure of. I would love to know more about the inspection stamps etc if anyone can provide more information.

Apologies for the quality of the photos - I’m not adept at photographing bayonets at this point. Hope you like it and thanks for looking.

Fabulous WW1 bayonet Andy, and with the frog linking it to the ALH regiment a real bonus. The 7 point star was an early Lithgow proof mark. If you go onto the Lithgow Small Arms Factory website you can download a document giving details of all their proof marks.
On the cross bar, if that's "1MD" it refers to 1st Military District (Northern Command, Queensland). Not sure when that was stamped on.
