Default M1917 bayonet - is scabbard right?

    Hi,

In my collection I have this M1917 bayonet.

Is the scabbard I have for this bayonet the right one?
    ...bought together.

Could the scabbard be for an M1907 - thinking of the teardrop hock?

What do you think of the set in general?

The photos are so dark that I can't really tell what color the scabbard is... Black would be P14 and green would be M1917.

It looks like the scabbard is for the British P14. US scabbards would have had the wire hanger that attaches the scabbard to a belt. Keep in mind that the P14 and M1917 bayonets are exactly the same, so putting your bayonet inside this scabbard won't harm anything...

As Joe said, it is a British pattern scabbard. The color and frog stud are prominent features on these.

    Thanks for answer.

The scabbard is black - must be for the British P14 then.

What about the teardrop hock on the scabbard?
...some have teardrop shape, others are just round? ...is this about early or late production?

Here is "the word" on the scabbards for the M1917 bayonet:

    Bayo Points 11

Many of the US M1917 Rifles and bayonets were sent to Britain as aid (Lend Lease) during WW2 and, to fit British P37 or P39 gear, the standard P07 scabbard was often issued.

The tear drop studs are ww1 and the round are ww2. Thee scabbard for the P17 would have the metal hooks like the M8 scabbard, but it would be attached right to the throat, no webbing. For the US issued ones anyways.

I have one of these Remington M1917's with Canadian markings.
The green scabbard originally had a belt hook/wire attached,
but was likely removed to fit into a British style frog........

    Steve.
