    Hi Guys,

I am going over to Germany in september to explore the Hurtgen forest, Please could could anybody advise where are the best places to visit. We would be interested in trenching and possible areas where the history is visible on the surface. Our visit will be more of a walk over than dig over. We will be over there for 3 clear days so we are keen to make the best possible use of this time. Many thanks in advance.

By all means walk the area. But do not be tempted to dig as this is against the Law. Enjoy your trip.

    Cheers, Ade.

Be very careful sgtfingers. The police are RED hot around the Hurtgen, as are the Foresters. If you're caught with so much as a bent peice of rusty metal you'll be hung out to dry.

It is illegal to search the Hurtgen.....with or without a detector

It is a really sobering place to visit. I am sure you'll enjoy it.

The deeper into the forest you can get, the more 'remains' you'll see. Many of the bunkers are still there and the trench lines and fox holes are usually easy to spot, even after 65 years !

    Have a good time

I will be visting the Hurtgen Forest this summer. Is it not possible to dig for WWII relics on private property with permission? If not, where are the best areas to dig for relics in Belgium or Germany, with permission of course?

    Regards,
    David
