Hi, hope this is allowed in the forum.

We have started to compile the list of Portuguese and Portuguese descendents to have fought in the Allied armies during World War Two.
    US Army and Commonwealth Armies.

The project is well on full steam and and looks great so far.

So, i would like to ask, if you find a name that sounds Portuguese (Ferreira, Antunes, Andrade, etc.…) please send me the name of the soldier and any sort of record you may find on that perso by private message on the forum or email "projectousarmy@gmail.com"

Thank you all for the kind help you may provide.

    Regards
    Antonio

    Hi, everyone.

I am looking for any existing photos of former San Diego tuna fleet YP36 boat.
It was under the command of Cpt. Joaquin Theodore.
Mr Joaquin is Luso-American and was injured in the pacifc, on a Japanese attack.

Has anyone seen YP36 boat or has photos or information on it ?

Thank you so much in advance.

    Regards
    António

    Hey,
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

Some of the information you found, does make sense and some doesnt.

It was a "fisherman`s boat" out of the San Diego tuna fleet, and it was indeed transfered to the US Navy.
But only after 1941, not 1934, so its clearly not the same boat.

This boat and its captain is turning out to be very hard to find information on.

    Regards
    António

Hello António, I don't know enough about US Navy to say why there might be two boats with the same number.

Hey, me neather…. But it does not seem to be the same boat.
One of the problems i am having with these tuna fleet boats and their enlisted men…….is not finding records of anything.

Some were awarded high level commendations but i cant find anything specific.

Mr Theodore had some high profile events but there is nothing on record.
There many more Portuguese veterans on the same situation.

    Hi António,
Mr Theodore is not listed on Nara records. I found he passed on 27 December 1998 and is buried in San Diego with his wife Marcella.

Hey, none of these yard patrol Boats captains are.
Hopefully someone will correct me if im wrong, but i believe its because they were never full military service men, they were just temporary enlisted.
