Indeed Mark. The "woke" people of today invoke the principle of presentism, which is the practice of holding people of past societies up to the standards of today and then canceling them if not found perfect by today's standards.
Many don't know that Churchill attended Sandhurst and saw combat in India and in the Boer War. The "siren suit" was famous, but he also dressed often as an Air Commodore.

Following Churchill's resignation from cabinet after the Dardanelles disaster, he went on to serve as an officer in the trenches on the Western Front until early 1916. His choice of the Adrian helmet as his head protection was probably more to do with the fact it was the only readily available helmet at the time.
