8,8cm KwK 36 comparison to 8,8cm Flak 18 cartridge
good evening gents
i'm new at this forum, but my head is full of questiones, so let me start, maybe you can privide a little help to organize my thoughts .....
i'm asking myself if kwk 36 and flak 18 has the same cartridge cases.
i have the H.Dv. 481 60 (kwk36) in my files and the L.Dv. 4402/5 (flak18), both are bad copies, hard to read
what i can see, is that cartridge 6347 (flak18) has an rimdiameter of 111,50 millimeters and i can nor determine the rimdiameter for the kwk36, it is unreadable
so, my concern is, to get help, first
.... in an better readable copy of the H.Dv. 481 60 (kwk36)
and second
.... your thoughts to my questione if 8,8cm kwk36 and 8,8 flak 18 cases are identical

For better copies of German manuals use this website!
michaelhiske.de
Then go to German manuals and then “Heer” then the “Merkblätter für die munition”
I am on the page right now for the KWK 36 so I can confirm it’s here!
And off my head wasn’t the biggest difference between KWK and FLAK casings just KWK used electric primers and FLAK used percussion primers?

As said above. Here's a screenshot of page 46 of Merkblatt für die Munition der 8,8 cm Kampfwagenkanone 36. The casing model for all KwK 36 cartridges is indeed 6347 while the primer is the electric C/22.
To answer your question: yes, they are identical with the exception of the primer type.

It's also important to understand that the KwK36 cases were marked as such in black around the outside of the case to distinguish them from percussion primed ammo. From my research, it appears shells for Flak 18, 36 & 37 were rarely (if ever) marked on the outside of the case. Here is an example with KwK 43 for comparison:
The headstamps though do match, there are no KwK 36 headstamps on 88x517R shells, they are all stamped 8,8 cm FLAK 18
Hope this helps!
