Hello and Happy New year 2021 fellow ww2 collectors/researchers..............

Can you please help us out ??????? We are trying to find a Russian Tank / Tracked artillery 'Track links' reference book.
My friend has a really comprehensive German Panzer reference book on all the German tank etc track links called.................

    Panzer Tracks...........
Panzerketten: Die Gleisketten der deutschen Kettenfahrzeuge des Zweiten Weltkrieges (German) Hardcover – 1 Jun. 2013
    by Peter Schwarzmann

We are having trouble finding an equivalent book for the Russian Tanks and Tracked Artillery which just about the track links , what Links fitted to which Tanks and Track link values would most handy !!
Well that is it, please tell me if I am in the wrong category, your help on us finding this book would be very much appreciated !!!

Even books in Russian language would do, as just need good images of the track links and what they are off !!

Interesting question. I fear we may be waiting a while, firstly since this area of collecting has only recently developed, for many years you wouldn't see the rusty stuff at fairs, and secondly because interest in anything that isn't German just isn't there. At the big UK shows/fairs Soviet track, and tank parts in general, don't command any great value and you can usually pick up even the biggest links (KV/IS for example) for less than £70 each and substantially less for artillery/tractors because they are 'not even tanks'.

Whilst we wait for a book perhaps it might be worth posting track links here and start building a basic id guide for collectors. It may not be as detailed as a reference book but it's a start.

KV/IS - most vehicles used exclusively 'horned' (top) track. These images show the split 'flat' link variety used on some models of KV. Two other variants of these 'split' links existed and are detailed in Neil Stokes' book 'KV technical history and varients'

Looks like it could be from a Komintern Artillery Tractor. A pic of the underside might be better to confirm or dispel this as many period images only show that side.
