Forgot to mention it bears the serial number; 83832E .

Strange this post didn't gave much answers over here...
On a general antique forum I was told the clock might have been used on a submarine (because of the 24 h.dial ) and that the serial number is printed on the back.
The number on the front is a US navy inventory number.

Got to know the clock must have been made in the early 1945.

My parents had a Chelsea "Mariners" mantle clock. Strictly civilian but not very much different. I was my job as a kid to wind it up ever few days.
