It comes from members of the Tiger crew , the Gunner in particular who states the Tiger Commander panicked after they hit by an anti tank round and they reverersed through a hedge and into the Sherman which they didn't know was there , causing a low speed collision . It is covered in the Comabt history of the s Panzer Abt 503 !

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Interesting....so they end up together either way...... 'would be great to know the REAL truth but I suspect we never will. 'not actually sure which story would be best in a Combat History...."I panicked and ordered reverse gear without looking behind me" or "I allowed an enemy tank to get so close to me it rammed me"....
'shame...... but thanks
The best bit is when the German Gunner and a British crew member had a fist fight in a shell hole to try and take each other prisoner !!
