US WWI Foden delousing vehicle
The US 26th Yankee Division insignia is on the hood of this Foden steam lorry and a sterilizer is mounted on the chasis for delousing uniforms. There is no identification on the back of my original photo. The unit involved may be the 101st Sanitation Train of the 26th Division. Additional vehicle, sterilizer or unit information would be appreciated.

Re: US WWI Foden delousing vehicle
Interesting photographs. I have never seen a vehicle like this.

The lorry is a 5ton foden waggon, they were used quite a bit in WW1 and I understand that there were approx 20 built to order as delousing stations, using the steam from the boiler to kill off the lice like an autoclave. I was not aware that any were used by American troops. Quite a few of these waggons were used on shell delivery from the forwarding depots to the front. Not a nice job as if you set a smokey fire you were spotted by the enemy then they started to fire at your position.
