Hi, Another old model from way back that won several awards in various shows it is Tamiya's 1/48th scale M4 Sherman that has been extensively super detailed using Aber etched brass details sets including the hedge plough, various other small scratch built details and stowage. The hardest bit to detail was the Turret mounted Machine gun as I had to remove all original moulded on plastic details from the gun and then add many very small brass details but the effect made it worthwhile.
The hedge ploughs on these Sherman's were field produced by cutting up the steel German beach defence tank traps and welding them up to make the ploughs which enabled the Tank to cut straight through the thick Normandy embankment hedgerows and drive through the fields. Prior to these improvised gadgets the Tanks had to stick to the narrow roads with thick raised hedgerows either side and were easy targets for anti tank guns and even single soldiers with panzer fausts this imaginative device was a decisive factor in bringing about the Allied break out from the Normandy countryside. The trees are model railway types and the ground work, grass and cobblestones are all scratch built using various materials.
Cheers, Andy.
