Hello. I'm trying to identify my great grand uncle's military Uniform. He is Polish. From the Bialystok region. His name is Piotr Ejsmont. I believe the uniform is from the 20's or 30's.

I'd love some help figuring out what military uniform he is wearing. Thank you in advance.

I can only point into a direction.
The collar and rank insignias point to the Austrian/Ukrainian Army. That does not say he is not showing a Polish officer, as many in the first period 1918-1819 still used their former uniforms with small additions, making them more Polish national.

    Greetings,

I would agree with ths. The collar and rank stars appear to be of an Austro-Hungarian pattern. The 2 stars if embroidered indicating lieutenant rank and if made of metal indicating a corporals rank.
My understanding is that the Ukrainian nationals wore their rank insignia in a single line in a horizontal pattern, rather than the vertical pattern shown here.

The uniform cut however does not strike me as Austro-Hungarian where the pockets are more scalloped and not cut straight as in the photo and the buttons were often covered and not exposed as in the photo.

    Hi Kathleen,

I have looked for Piotr Ejsmont in the Oficerski Rocznik (Officers Yearbook) for 1923, 1924, 1932, and in the Rocznik Oficerski Rezerw 1934, with no listing for a Piotr Ejsmont,

    the only 2 listed in 1923 are (A) Kazimierz I Born 17/09/1892. & (B) Kazimierz II Born 13/03/1893.

I have also checked on the list of Officers on the Army Museum in Warsaw, which only list Kazimierz.

There are a few more avenues that I can search if I find anything I will post it up.

    Best wishes

    Andrzejku

A possibillity is an officer with or former with the Legions.
In the later period they had Austrian distinctions.

    Greetings,

Here are a couple of photos I found from the Polish Legions.

The officers photos show quite a different range of tunic styles.
Just the 'zig-zag' is missing from the photo of Piotr Ejsmont.

I agree, his is missing the wezyke.
The only sure thing seems to be, he has at one point served in the Austrian Army.
The pockets in my opinion does not matter so much.
The jacket could be local made for a local defense unit from the period of the early border fights?

    Hello
This is not polish legionist. I think it is a polish fireman in the early twenties.
    For example.

    Fantastic,

This would explain the lack of the collar 'zig zag' and the fact that the uniform is from the 20s/30s, where we would expect to see this.

i have never seen photos of Polish firemen previously.
    Thanks for posting.
