POLISHBOYS MUSEUM for those collectors looking for ideas on displaying
their Military. This room consists of a large Door panel mounted on top of 2 vertical 3 drawer file
cabinets in the center. This work table is large enough to handle several 18"X 24" shadow box type display cases.
The 18" X 24" X 2-12" Display cases are commercially available for about $ 50 each. Each case is lined with
foam or memory foam, covered with color velvet like foam. Many colors are available to suit you taste. One or more layers of foam are built up so that the Medals are held in place by slight pressure from the Glass cover. You will need to experiment with this to obtain enough pressure to hold each medal in place but not too much pressure to risk breaking the glass cover. In my case I was able to obtain a short roll of Memory Foam, which allows objects to
conform with minimum pressure. For thicker, larger objects, like a Dagger, you can cut away the foam in a local area.
When you close the glass cover there should not be too much pressure on the glass and this might require some experimentation.

Once you have put all the objects into Display Cases you can either build a bookcase style carrier with shelves
so you can have easy access to the cases, or Hang the Display Cases on he wall as shown in the pictures.
This is the ultimate method since you have easy access and visibility to your collection.
I installed a 3" deep X 3/4" which pine shelf along an entire wall. The lower shelf has a 1/4" thick X 1-1/2" Wide lip which prevented the cases from slipping forward and off. The top shelf is built in a similar fashion but reversed
so that the lip is pointed downward. The idea is the easily remove and replace each case by lifting to clear the lip and pulling out while slightly lowering to clear the upper downward facing lip.
Without getting into too much detail you should experiment first and install later, you know "measure twice and cut once". Polishboy
