Hi Mark, this is most likely because at the time this photo was taken the beret insignia had not yet been formally accepted. With the 4th “Scorpion” Armoured Regiment the beret scorpion insignia was authourized for wear on April 2, 1945. This was the first insignia bearing the scorpion authorized for display on the uniform. The badge and collar pennons followed a year later. I am away from my reference sources at the moment so cannot verify the dates, but it’s a good bet that the other armoured regiments had their beret insignia introduced around this time.
