    Hello Kosa,

This is where it gets interesting the Regimental History lists him as surviving the war, although there is a Pancerny Edward Grądkowski, listed as being born on the 26th April 1915 in Skuły in the provence of Błonie, being killed on the 4th September 1944 and buried at the Polish War Cemetery at Casamassima in grave : 12-B-8.

    Interesting indeed

    Best wishes

    Hello Andrzej,

Many thanks for your comments. As a matter of fact he was wounded twice. See the legitymacja below. I think he wasn't KIA but might have died of wounds. A mystery indeed as his documents don't say they were issued posthumously.

    Best regards,
    Piotr

    Hello Submariner,

Many thanks for your post, is this one you now own, it would be nice to see some photographs :

When awarded the Monte Cassino Cross his details were as follows :

    Rank : Saper (Engineer)

    Surname : Kasperowicz

    Christian Name : Bazyli

    Date of Birth : 1905

Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1905-254-III

Unit : 301 Kompania Saperow (301st Engineering Company)

Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 40145

    Hello Piotr,

Many thanks for your post, unfortunately the Regimental History just lists R for Ranny with no number if wounded more than once, it is interesting that he is not listed in the Regimental History as being killed or died of wounds.

    Best wishes

    Hello again Andrzej,

Honestly I doubt there were two Edward GRĄDKOWSKI soldiers born in 1905 but who knows The casualty lists of a regiment are always stated in killed, wounded, and missing. Perhaps he was mortally wounded but included with the wounded instead of with the killed and that’s why he is listed as surviving the war although he's buried at Casamassima. His wound award certificate shows he received two stars. A star idicates a single wound. It looks like the other wound was mortal.

    Best regards,
    Piotr
