Many thanks for your post, with regards to Henryk SZKLAREK when awarded the Monte Cassino Cross his details were as follows :

Rank : Podporucznik (2nd Lieutenant)

Date of Birth : 1912

Army Number : 1912-236-III

Unit : 17BS, 5KDP

Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 18591

Podporucznik Henryk Szklarek.

I have found the following information for you Dawid, Henryk was the son of Jan Szklarek born in 1912, Henryk was either a Regular or Reservist in the Army in 1939 he fought in the September 1939 Campaign and was captured by the soviets in Włodzimierzon the 22nd September 1939, he joined the Anders Army at Tockoje on the 2nd September 1941.

Whilst serving in the 2nd Corps in Italy his service number also found on His ID Tags was as follows : 1912-236-III, Unit 17 LBP, within the 17th Battalion he was in command of the 2nd Platoon of the 2nd Infantry Company which was commanded by Kapitan Jan Leśkiewicz. He fought with the Battalion during the Battle of Monte Cassino and up to December 1944. On the 13th December he was transferred to the 10 Wołyński Batalion Strzelców and given command of the 3rd Company (Kompania).

With regards to Kazimierz Krawczyk, he served in the 1st Squadron of the 4th Armoured Regiment as a Plut. (Lance Sergeant), but he did not fight at Monte Cassino. So he could have been a late replacement for losses suffered by the Regiment.

Zygmunt Rudziński came to the UK after the war and settled in Bolton where he died in 1987
