    Hello artee,

Strzelec (Rifleman) Wacław OleSZkiewicz, Army Number: 1912-44-III, Unit: 16 Lwowski Batalion Strzelców, 5 KDP, MCC Nr: 18219

On the picture you posted I think he is in the rank of starszy strzelec (Lance Corporal - I think that there is one bar on his epaulets, although it seems too wide for one bar) and it looks like that the first ribbon is the ribbon of the Krzyż Walecznych (Cross of Valour).

On his uniform there are collar pennants of the 16 LBS:

    Monte Cassino cross

    Regards
    Konrad

    Hello Andrzej,

Could you be so kind and give any information you would be able to find regarding Stanisław Adamkowski. He was a Recipient of the Monte Cassino Cross as we can see from the below photo:

    Monte Cassino cross

I am asking on behalf of Stanisław's cousin. All he know is that his uncle Stanisław Adamkowski was born in 1915 in Dąbkowice near Łowicz. He served in the 2nd Corps in the 22nd Transport Company. After the end of the war he settled down in Canada where he died in 2015 after his 100th birthday.

Unfortunately he do not have any photos from the war period, all of them were destroyed when an artillery shell hit the vehicle (or its vicinity) with which his unle was carrying the ammunition. His uncle was seriously injured then but he managed to crawl out of the car and hide behind a tank standing on the side of the road.
The bear Wojtek which served in the 22nd Transport Company reportedly traveled many times with his uncle in a truck cab.

    Monte Cassino cross

    Data regarding Stanisław Adamkowski

Any info would be most helpful.

    Thank you in advance
    Konrad

    Hi Konrad,

Thank you for reply and clarification.
I think you are right - he is in the rank of starszy strzelec, my great-grandfather had the same one bar on his epaulets.
