Surname : Woliński

Christian Name : Franciszek

Date of Birth : 19th September 1901

Army Number : 02086

Unit : Headquarters Staff 2 Corps

Prior to the war in 1932 he was a Porucznik in the 2nd Mounted Rifles Regiment (he was 18th in seniority promoted 15th August 1929).

Hello Marta,

Recipient of the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 42338 was:

Porucznik Jerzy Gołaszewski, Army Number: 1897-171-III, Unit: 1 Szpital Wojenny (1 Military Hospital [later 5 Military Hospital - stationed at Casamassima])

After the end of the war he returned to Poland.



I am convinced that Andrzej will provide you with additional information regarding Por. Jerzy Gołaszewski.

Hello Marta,

May I first of all welcome you to the Forum, Konrad is correct in what he has posted in the previous post, it seemed unusual for a Porucznik to be without and abbreviation after his rank when working in a Field Hospital so I did some investigation and found the following for you.

Por. mgr. Jerzy Gołaszewski was a Aptekarzy (Pharmacist), he is listed in the Reserve Officers Yearbook for 1934 on pages : 758 & 232 on which it shows that he was promoted to Porucznik on the 2nd January 1932 and was 1st in seniority, at that time he was living in Końskie.

That is all that I can provide you with Marta, if you wish to know more then obtaining a copy of his service record from the British Ministry of Defence would be the best thing also contacting the Polish Army Records Centre to obtain a copy of his service record pre 1939 would also be advisable.
