    Hello Valerii,

Many thanks for your post requesting information about Władysław Ziółkowski, i have searched through the Register of Recipients but only found one Władysław, who was born in 1919.

Whilst Władysław Ziółkowski served as a St.Strz. (Lance Corporal), Army Number : 1909-168-III, 8BSK, 3DSK.

The 8th Rifle Battalion was formed in the Spring of 1942 in Palestine, but was disbanded in November the same year, but by the end of 1944 it was reformed in Italy, in April 1945 the Battalion took part in the Battle for Bologna.

After the end of the war in Europe, it was used to guard Military Facilities in the Senigallia region of Italy, in 1946 the Battalion was transported from Italy to the UK and was disbanded there in 1947.

Therefore Valerii it can be assumed that he joined the 2nd Corps after Monte Cassino, probably a replacement, the only way of correctly answering this question is to obtain a copy of his Service Record from the British Ministry of Defence.

Apologies for not being able to answer your question Valerii.

    Best wishes
