    Hello Andrzej

Just a comment on post 4888, MCC 25505 awarded to Justyn Kondrat. I see MCC 25506 was awarded to Stanislaw Kondrat. Wonder if they were brothers ?

    Regards Kevin

    Hello Kevin!

Think it is possible to check.
You should get their POW records from CAW archive inside Kolekcja Wojskowej Komisji Archiwalnej.
It include informatione about their place of birth.
    Kondrat Justyn
    Kondrat Stanislaw

But for my opinione they are not have any realationship to each other, because inside KMC list the same names inside one military unit go one by one in alphabit order:

    Hello Everyone,

I came across an interesting fact that I would like to share with you. And it is related to the Monte Cassino Cross...

Penley Community Hospital is a former community hospital dedicated to Polish ex-servicemen in Penley, Wales. It is managed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and closed in 2002.

    Monte Cassino cross

The original hospital building (which had space for 30 wards but was now only using one) was subsequently demolished and a small, modern facility was opened in 2004, with 8 individual rooms for the surviving Polish residents.

In the building of the new hospital here is a painting of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn (Matki Bożej Ostrobramskiej) made of coffee cans by Polish soldiers. There are pinned on the painting two Monte Cassino Crosses and other Polish decorations, such as the Cross of Valour with the 1920-1939 ribbon and the the Silver Cross of Merit with Swords. One of the Crosses is numbered 32326 but the second one is unidentified.

    Monte Cassino cross

    Monte Cassino cross

Monte Casino Cross Numbered 32326 awarded to T. Filipiński (born 1902) who served in the Dowództwo 2 Grupy Artylerii (Command, 2nd Artillery Group)

    Monte Cassino cross

In the database of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance there is Tomasz Filipiński, but he was born in 1901.

    Hello Konrad,

Many thanks for your post, in fact the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 32326 when awarded the recipients details were as follows :

    Rank : Kanonier (Artilleryman)

    Surname : Sinica

    Christian Name : Franciszek

    Date of Birth : 5th March 1902

    Place of Birth : Chroły

    Army Number : 1902-77-III

Unit : DGA (Dowództwo Grupy Artylerii) (Command Group Artillery)

Monte Cassino Cross numbered : 32326

    Monte Cassino cross

Monte Cassino Cross reverse numbered : 32326

Franciszek Sinica died at Penley on the 6th April 1976 and was buried in Wrexham Cemetery on the 12th April 1976 in grave number : D-09229.

    Monte Cassino cross

    Grave of Franciszek Sinica.

Hope that the above clarifies everything.

I have also checked the Register of recipients of the Monte Cassino Cross and only found one Tomasz Filipiński listed whose details are as follows :

    Rank : Plut. (Lance Sergeant)

    Surname : Filipiński

    Christian Name : Tomasz

    Date of Birth : 12th August 1901

    Army Number : 1901-10-III

    Unit : 3BSK

Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 4434

Tomasz Filipiński died on the 25th July 1978 at Penley and was buried on the 28th July 1978 in Wrexham Cemetery in grave number : OL-00724

So it looks that they put the name on the wrong Monte Cassino Cross on display.

    Best wishes

By the end of the war in Europe he had been promoted to Podporucznik (2nd Lieutenant), no doubt Zygmunt left Italy bound for the UK with his Regiment, Whilst Kazimiera was by 1947 stationed in Palestine and set sale for England from Port Said.
