    A friend of mine has just mentioned he has 2 MCC's and wondered if you guys could put any details to the numbers. The numbers are 4929 and 37718. thanks in advance for any info

    Date of Birth : 24th August 1914

    Fathers Name : Bolesław

    Place of Birth : Warszawa (Warsaw)

    Army Number : 1914-57-III

    Unit : 1BSK (1st Carpathian Rifle Battalion which was part of the 1st Rifle Brigade of the 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division.

    Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 4929

    By the end of the war in Europe he was serving in the 9BSK.


    Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 37718

    Rank : Kanonier (Artilleryman)

    Surname : Kata

    Christian Name : Władysław

    Date of Birth : 5th March 1923

    Army Number : 1923-210-III

    Unit : 1 Pułk Artylerii Pomiarowej (1st Artillery Survey Regiment)

    Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 37718

    Władysław Kata survived the war in Europe and came to the UK with his Regiment and died in Blackpool, Lancashire in 2000.

    Unfortunately nothing listed for Julia Wołk

    With regards to Bolesław Brzukowski when awarded his details were as follows :

    Christian Name : Bolesław

    Date of Birth : 1900

    Fathers Name : Stanisław

    Army Number : 1900-145-III

    Unit: 5PAL

    He ended the war has a Chorąży.

    With regards to your 2nd question I could not find a listing for him although I did find the following information for you :

    Franciszek Szymankiewicz Born 3rd April 1904, Fathers Name : Franciszek.

    good evening all.
    Can i ask you to look at the picture and tell me what order left to right the polish medals are meant to be in, im happy with the uk ones but not sure on the polish ones. Any help appreciated.... aplolgies for the sideways view i have no idea how to change it around Monte Cassino cross

    You have got them in the correct order of precedence namely

    From left to right

    1) Polish Cross of Valour

    2) Polish Army Medal

    3) Polish Monte Cassino Cross

    4) British 1939-1945 Star

    5) British Italy Star

    6) British 1939-1945 Defence Medal

    7) British 1939-1945 War Medal

    The only ribbon that is the wrong way round is the 1939-1945 Star which should look like the one below :

    Józef Gniadek died on the 14th April 2008 in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
