    By the end of the war in Europe he had been awarded the Cross of Valour (KW), he came to the UK with his Battalion and after being demobbed from the Polish Resettlement Corps settled down to civilian life in a foreign land. Czesław Barteczka died in 1967 aged 44 in Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire.

    I found the following whilst surfing the internet this morning:

    When awarded the recipients details were as follows:

    Rank: Saper (Engineer)

    Surname: Takuszewicz

    Christian Name: Michał

    Date of Birth: 4th April 1917

    Army Number: 1917-28-III

    Unit: 10 Baon Saperow Korpusu (10th Engineers Battalion)

    Monte Cassino Cross numbered: 39570

    He survived the war in Europe being awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit with swords (BKZzM), he came to the UK with his Battalion and after being demobbed from the Polish Resettlement Corps settled down to life in a foreign land. But by 1949 he had decided to emigrate to Canada, which he did, leaving Southampton on board the MS Aquitania on the 3rd August 1949 bound for Halifax in Nova Scotia.

    He settled down to civilian life in Canada and by 1962 was working has a Tailor in Winnipeg, he lived at 321 Beecher Avenue in Winnipeg and died on the 30th April 2012 aged 95, Michał Takuszewicz was buried in the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg.

    I was also able to find a photograph of Michał Takuszewicz wearing his medals
