    Hello Valerii,

It might be difficult to find it because of the war damage, the landscape may have changed a little in the years since the end of the war, but I wish you all the best in trying to find out where on the Adriatic Coast that the photograph was taken.

    Season's Greetings

    Hello Valerii and Everyone,

This is these characteristic bulding under the monastery mountain. The photo you posted is a later photo and was taken after the end of hostilities as it looks like on some photos this characteristic building has another (third) column of windows on the right side, and as mentioned the soldiers are not armed.

This place is on the curve of Road No. 6, it used to be the Piazza Ciano (on the top pictures is view the other way).

The Germans blew up the drainage system, the rest of the damage was done by bombing.

So this is the water reservoir I mentioned in my post nr #3 (on the top pictures).

That's why after the war there was a malaria epidemic in the area...

I have marked this characteristic building in the red circle. It seems to be just an ordinary apartment building.

Typing "ruins of the Monte Cassino" in the Google you can simply find this aera with this building:

Unfortunately this square and the surrounding buildings have not been rebuilt. Today it looks like this:

Thanks a lot for your time & genius work Konrad!
I'm really purshaated to you for that!

Also I think that this photo could be made in july of 1945,
when my great-grandfather's pulk & maybe all 3DSK visit the monument to the 3 DSK soldiers at Monte Calvario (593 Hill, opened on 18th of july in 1945)

    Hello Valerii,

    For your information:

About the identification marks of units of an infantry divisions (3 DSK and 5 KDP):

Need your help for identify soldier on photo (inside truck)

"55" - Pułk Artylerii Plot. Lekkiej and Pluton Warsztatowy PAPlotL (of course it is about the 3 Karpacki PAPlotL)

Need your help for identify soldier on photo (inside truck)

"KW" - it could be a short from Kompania Warsztatowa but as you can see the 3 PAPlotL had Pluton Warsztatowy. I think that could be the short from Kwatermistrzostwo or Kwaterunkowy.

    Regards
    Konrad

    Hello there Konrad!

Thanks a lot for yor help!
Most likely KW means Kompania Warsztatowa.
According to the MOD documents(KARTA IMIENNA), looks
like my great-grandfather really served by a car driver (kierowca samochodu) in pluton warsztatowy, after he was wounded in the Monte Cassino battle.

Need your help for identify soldier on photo (inside truck)

This document signed by kpt. Zygmunt Malinowski - dowodca pluton warsztatowy of 3 KPAPL.

Need your help for identify soldier on photo (inside truck)

According information from Karta Ewidencyjny seems that my great-grandfather finished a driver courses in the middle of 1930. This fact could help him to continue his military service by a car driver possibly.

    Hello Valerii,

A Regiment is a unit composed of the Command, Staff, Quartermaster (Kwatermistrzostwo) and several sub-units (Battalions, Squadrons, Companies). Finally Company consists of about 3-4 Platoons (Plutony).

I don't think that the 3 KPAPlotL had its own Kompania Warsztatowa (Workshop Company), but clearly had its own Pluton Warsztatowy (Workshop Platoon). I think the Pluton Warsztatowy in witch your great-grandfather served in was a part of the Kwatermistrzostwo (Quartermaster) operating in the rear of the unit.

Thus the mark "KW" is probably an abbreviation for Kwatermistrzostwo, IMO.

    Konrad

    Hello there Konrad!

Think I finaly found the answer on this question.
"KW" means Kolumna Warsztatowa pod dowództwen kpt. Zygmunta Malinowskiego.

I have found a fragment from the 3KPAPL book which describe the way from the El Mughar (Palestine) to
    Quizil Ribat (Irak):

Need your help for identify soldier on photo (inside truck)
Need your help for identify soldier on photo (inside truck)

Looks like the 3KPAPL used this sign when they
took part in long distance marches by cars.

I think it can be same situation when they returned back to Cassino from the North part of Penisola appenninica

Also found information that the soldiers of pulk got a Defence Medal for the defence of huge oil fields near Kirkuk in Irak.
Thought before that they got this medal only because they got two British stars.
Looks like all soldiers, who served in Armia Polska na Wschodzie got this medal for the defence operations in the Middle East.

    Regards, Valerii

    Hello there Everyone!

Some weeks ago I have found some additional photos of my
    great grandfather.

    1. One of them was published in the book "Spod Monte Cassino na Sybir". Also I can find the record that he was awarded by Medal Wojska for sure from his Zeszyt Ewidencijny. Most of all the photo was taken from his Karta Repatriacijna:

Post here download link for this book. It include a huge database of the 2nd Corp Polish soldiers who
have been repatriated to the Poland and Soviet Union and was repressed by the Soviet government one more time
(there are many links for the other useful archives, which can help to discover some additional information
    about this brave men):

Think I can found a photos of the 3 K.P.A.PL 3 Dywizyon 7 baonu soldiers, who take a rest on the one of the town beaches
somewhere in Marche region (may be some of you can identify that place?)

I compare the family group photo of my great grandfather (from the Monte Calvario monument) and the photos from the PISM archive:
    - First of all it seems to me that the man,who stand the second from the right have almost the same face from the book photo.

    - The second thing was the hand pose that is very similar with the pose on the group photo from memorial

    - The third thing looks much more convincing than others. If we try to check the other soldiers on the group photo
they can be also found here:

    - And the last one thing I can check, that in one of the photos most of all captured Feliks Szymonski (the deputy of 3 dywizijony 7 baonu 3 K.P.A.PL)
