Polish Hat Eagles

Article about: In my opinion this particular cap eagle was made by G.J. Garratt Toronto. Very unique, hard to find.

    Thank you Pieter and Konrad.
Pieter, I have emailed Margaret, unfortunately the office is currently closed due to coronavirus, hopefully when it passes I will find out more. I have found the website polishexilesofww2.org quite informative, I have found his Monte Cassino medal serial number listed on the site but issued to another person, not him but their records are limited.

Konrad, thanks again for that, by chance would the search bring up variations in the name 'drozdowski' or 'drozdov' for example? My Grandad's date of birth, on his gravestone, is 7 Sep 1923, and I think his Father's name was Aleksander, my cousin is named after him. So this Jaroslaw does seem to be another, but again your help is appreciated.

    Andrzej,
Thank you for your post, Alina was my Grandfather's second wife. I expected my Grandfather to be enlisted into the Resettlement Corps but I have not been able to confirm this yet. I am interested in finding out how he came to England, whether by boat from Italy, or through France, hopefully my research will lead me to this.

I have found this recently, which has a Jaroslav with a slightly different birth date.

I am quite accepting that in those times names and dates are not necessarily 100% accurate, I had two great uncles, one who died in the first world war, that had their surname incorrectly recorded for four years, on their military records.

    Kind regards,

    Ollie.

    Thanks for your post Ollie.

I think that you have to wait patiently for additional information from Andrzej. I think this is the person you are looking for.

I have searched through the databases of the IPN and CAW looking for Drozdowski / Drozdow / Drozd, born 1923 / 1922 but without any luck regarding to the soldier of the Anders Army.

    Regards
    Konrad

    Hello Ollie,

I have been able to search through the Register of Recipients of the Monte Cassino Cross there are 20 + Drozd's listed but unfortunately no Jarosław is listed, so your Grandfather joined the 2nd Corps either after the Battle for Monte casino or after the end of the war.

The best thing to do would be to wait for a copy of his service record, which will give you the answers that you crave.

Once again Welcome to the Forum Ollie

    Best wishes

    Andrzej

    Andrzej,

Through your searches did you come across an Aleksandra Drozd? Aleksandra was his middle name, I'm wondering if his middle name was used instead?

I have pictures of a few letters between him and his Dad/family after the war. Which I should look at getting translated, I've also got my Auntie going through any paperwork she has.

    Kind regards,

    Ollie.

    Andrzej,

Maybe I was misunderstanding to whom the letter was addressed. Please see below picture:
