Article about: In my opinion this particular cap eagle was made by G.J. Garratt Toronto. Very unique, hard to find.

but some of them were made of Egyptian gold. They were private purchase as a form of investment. It may sound kind of strange but it is true. Nobody knows how many of them have survived to date.
This may have been one of the many "wrinkles" used by Polish soldiers smuggling gold

Larger scale gold smuggling by 2PolCorps according to Harvey Sarner in his book Anders and the Soldiers of the Second Polish Corps was pretty wide-spread even at the highest levels of command in the Corps.

This is not the II Corps cap badge but I think you may like to see it. This is Miłkowski's interwar cap badge wz.19 from the late 30s. Stamped white metal silver plated. A cap badge hard to find. Miłkowski's production was relatively small compared to Skarnik&Fiszbein, Guzpol or Grabski to name just a few.

On Sarner. Gold smuggling was one story and the other one was investing in gold. Egyptian gold was low carat and pretty cheap. It was just was a perfect investment for the future. Poles also made uniform buttons from Egyptian gold

from a recent post, gold eagle with copper screw post and spinner. as can be observed, the spinner is manufacturer marked? the area had to be cleaned with a toothbrush and soapy water as it was heavily ingrained with dirt etc., barely legible.

    . . . , the spinner is manufacturer marked? . . . .
Looks like it could be the letters "P.M." - perhaps P. Minassian? Cairo based maker of the Legia Oficerska badge.

Unfortunately, my eagle is not gold but there are traces of gold plating on the reverse. There's no spinner. The spinner in your photo looks to be Puzant Minassian, Cairo.

By the way, the best way to remove dirt from a cap badge is to wash it with methylated spirit, let it dry, wash again and remove dirt with a cotton pad. Dirt is fat so methylated spirit helps remove it.

A spinner that came with another sand cast brass eagle made in Egypt. Many Polish side cap cast badges made in Egypt have such spinners. P.M. is short for Puzant Minassian.

Prosty Zolnierz, the spinner comes from Puzant Minassian, Cairo, Egypt. Your eagle was made in Egypt. If your eagle shines like pinchbeck (tombak) it may be Egyptian gold. Check it out.
How many of them do you have ?! Maybe you are a millionaire but you don't know it yet. Just kidding

Egyptian gold was 14/18 carat gold and the color is red or purple rather than orange. The color of 24 carat gold is orange, the mix of red and yellow.

    Cheers,
    Pit.
