Maybe several sets of medals were sent away for cleaning and have been mixed up when the new display was created? Pretty unforgiveable for a museum though.

Hello Everyone,
When I visited the Polish Institute and General Sikorski Museum for the 1st time in the 1970's, I noticed in a display on the 2nd Floor front Cavalry Room. The Virtuti Militari Legitymacja awarded to General Brygady Stefan Marian Strzemieński, photo below shows the display case containing the Legitymacja.
The Generals Legitymacja is situated in the display case just below the left hand Regimental Standard (double click the photograph to enlarge in a new window.
Why post about that I hear you say, well whilst surfing the other week I came across a set of photographs taken of the General and his wife and other senior officers whilst interned in Romania ( from September 1939 to February 1941 when he was transported to an Oflag in Germany.
General Brygady Stefan Marian Strzemieński
Virtuti Militari Silver Cross Nr : 5021, KN, OOP (Officers Cross), OOP (Knights Cross), KW x 4, ZKZ, Order of the Star of Romania (Commander), Order of St. Sava (Commander), LdH (Knight), WW1 Victory Medal (Medal Interallied).
Now for the photographs that I found :
The General is accompanied by a Major from the Polish Air Force, and 2 Podpulkownik's (2 Lieutenant Colonel's).
After the end of the war and the Generals release from POW Camp, he came to the UK where he died on the 31st July 1955 at Penrhos, the Polish Hospital in Wales.

The General's wife is a very stern looking woman. She reminds me
of my grandmother.

Hello Everyone,
Found out today some sad news the death of Rtm. Wacław Milewski who died on the 7th August in London aged 96, when he worked at the PISM in London he was the Archivist
the first Archivist was Dr. Edmund Oppman from 1945-1951 then followed by Mrs. Regina Oppman M.A. 1951 to 1980 the third Archivist was Rtm. Wacław Milewski from 1980-1989 then followed by the current Archivist Dr. Andrzej Suchcitz 1989-present.
I always found Rtm. Milewski extremely helpful and always pulled something out of the hat when looking for information, he always had a smile on his face to welcome everyone.
May he rest in peace
