I would explore Finland or Sweden as possible origins. Possibly from the Finnish war ? Does the hat have evidence of a visor bill being removed at one time. It sort of looks like this one in the link without the bill

Thank you for responding. I do not see any evidence of a bill. The difference with the Finnish hat is that it has a flat top, this hat is peeked. I am curious as to the blue & yellow pin on the side.
Where else might I look? Switch to a different forum?

The pin is Swedish. I’m not and expert on Swedish stuff but most everything Swedish is marked with three crowns. I have seen many similar caps described as WWII Swedish winter caps
Certainly Swedish indeed, I believe there were many variations of these. They used to be widely available at surplus stores here in Finland just a while ago.
