Hello,
officially no bayonets were introduced in the Bundeswehr for the G3.
There is no official source to confirm this.
It naturally happened that these pieces were organized privately and occasionally tolerated.
There are said to have been attempts to carry it with various models in the 1950s (this included the FN FAL Bayonet in addition to the M59 model for the G3). But even here all objective information is missing.
Pictures show a short-term use of the US M4 bayonet.
The US Army may also have supplied M1 bayonets.
In general, it has to be said that on the German side - especially from the experience of World War II - the usefulness of bayonets was heavily questioned. Therefore, the production of the S84 / 98 was cut back sharply in 1944 and shifted to combat knives.
Hi, mates,
fished out this G3 bayonet, (out of one of my ammo boxes, I prefer to store bayonets).
The snap is marked with:
SHB (Schaeffer-Homberg G.M.B.H., Druckknopf- und Metallwarenfabrik, Wuppertal-Barmen)
The bayonet is heavy used and the hanger shows a stock number.
It´s an sure indicator, this, particular, bayonet was "military issued" actually.
Sweden and Denmark marked their G3 bayonets individually.
Norway introduced another styled type of a G3 bayonet.
G3 and CETME Bayonets
IMHO the G3 bayonets I showed here in this thread could be bayonets, introduced, (stored), in the Bundeswehr, actually.
There:
G3 / HK33 "G3/S" bayonet
The "G3/S" bayonet.
