Thankyou vey much for the excellent information. For me the edge being as it is and not rolled to the inside has always been the point to where I would lead to it be unusual but without knowing details never before pointing to original. Not knowing the origins but being able receive information like this is incredible. I am a Metal fabricator and yes your point about cost for counterfeiting making it unlikely is very valid. thanks again

Here is the first variant that I could make out.

Head size 60. The "M1943" stamp can also be found in early M1951 helmets of the German police. It should be a manufacturer code.
I assign the inner lining to the manufacturer Schuberth Werke.

It is noticeable here that the screws only have one central opening.

The paint on the helmet shell is smooth. Under the slate gray color there is a lighter primer.

    The helmet is lightly worn.

The straps are roughly the same color as the helmet.

This helmet came with a self-cut cover that fits very well.

Here now to the 2nd variant

Here, too, the helmet shell has no recognizable manufacturer's stamp or marking.

It has the typical screws as they were already used on the M38.

The inner lining has very soft, light-colored leather. This can only be found at the manufacturer Hans Römer Neu-Ulm during this period.
Apart from the head size (59) there is no stamp. The "M1943" marking is not found here.
In addition to blackened rivets, this liner also has nickel-plated rivets.

The helmet shell shows signs of wear.
Here, too, there is a lighter primer under the slate-gray paint.

The chin strap also has minor differences to that of the first variant and is likely to come from a different manufacturer.
Among other things, the push button is not grained but has a smooth varnish.

I too am doubtful about it. I have not seen spanner bolts on BW Versuchs LL helmets, nor are any shown in the examples illustrated in Baer II pp.132-43. Versuchs LL helmets are all pianted olive and the liners in chin-straps are either of a rather makeshift nature or adapted from other helmets. The liner on this one looks too finished.

Here is an example with a Linnemann Schnetzler body and a Römer liner.Attachment 957285
