estate sale find

I stopped at an estate sale yesterday and found this ww2 M-1 helmet.

It has all it's original exterior paint with hardly a blemish on it.
The interior is almost as nice, the only paint loss is where the liner rubbed it.
The heat stamp is 163D.

The liner is a Westinghouse that looks to be complete including
the leather chin strap. (which is named to the owner)

unfortunately one of his kids had some fun with the exterior of the liner
with a little gold and black spray paint.

What I found interesting is the 1 inch wide white strip painted on the liner
but under the spray paint. It's old and done with a brush and wraps around to
the inside as well as is evident in the interior pictures.

Very nice! I hope it came at an estate sale price?

PS the kids artistic efforts are unfortunate but I still think that is a real good find!

I think I did OK for $30.
I'm going back tomorrow. His dress uniform jacket and pants
were there as well as his officers peaked cap Prices on those items
were not near as generous so we'll see what happens.

He was a 2nd Lt. in the signal corp so there is nothing very special
about those items to justify the price. IMO

Add a zero to you purchase price and that's likely the minimum one would have to pay for a similar item. Very well done!
