    what do you think of this color? The shell still has the original texture. Painted over with a lighter color on the outside.

    WW2 Gas detection color or color from the 1960's?

    The shell is from McCord Heatstamp: 866F, February-March 1944.
    Original sewn chin strap.

    Don't know too much with regards to Gas detection paint,i've seen this lighter colour on quite a few shells,but whether it's of ww2 vintage or just some random depot doing repaints and that colour was the closest they had at the time.nice early swivel McCord BTW.P.S I don't recall ever seeing an example of wartime origin even featured in the book "Helmets of the ETO".

    Gas detection paint tends to be yellow, this just looks like light OD.

    Nice lid, but I’m not sure if it’s Vesicant. They came in different shades based on the county of origin.
    I’m not sure if there is a way to test it other than setting off some mustard gas and see if it turns brown. LOL

    Hello,

    thanks for the posts. I wasn't sure about the color.
    In order to focus on the color, I only introduced the shell.

    Is the colour a yellowish shade like mine below? Could be a sibling! M1 Helmet Assistance - Vietnam War,reissued shell?
