Article about: I happened to buy this m1 helmet. the Westinghouse liner was painted green. with a little scrubbing i can see the right side of the helmet has a painted on insignia which appears to be the 8

Looks like painted over decals that have been dug out using solvent or sand paper....perhaps both.
Wire brush and paint remover?

they were painted over...green paint was pretty thin easily came off...why would there be 2 different divisions one one helmet liner? as a collector is this a good thing or bad thing?

It is relatively common on post war reused liners.

The left side is the insignia of the 104th Infantry Division. The right side is the regimental crest for the 414th Infantry Regiment.

by the way thanks for the info on the 414th..both insignias are similar, but i just didn't think it was close enough for it to be the 80th...
