    Hello, yes thank you for your compliment. I have just bought the helmet and it is on it's way, however you can be able to see a bit of the faded heat stamp in the second image. How would I go accurately dating it?

    WW2 helmet, which was probably made in Munsell 10Y in the 1960s. was painted over. Typical color from around 1965.
    You can also see paint from being painted over on the chin strap.
    Think underneath the original paint is still preserved.

    Corking looks good too, a light clean up will reveal the heatstamp number and there are soooo many threads on here for M1`s to keep you busy, next up is to find a nice liner for it, more of a challenge i think.

    There was a huge amount of these same coloured NOS M1 shells for sale last year here in Australia .
    And I reckon the strap is an added on extra authentication piece. NQR

    Don't do this! All of the information you need about when the helmet was manufactured can be determined without permanently damaging the helmet's finish.
