that's is one very salty well used M-1 very nice indeed as for date its going to be between November 1943 when the swivel bail came in to use November 1944 when the seam went from being at the front to the rear

Hi, i believe i manage to read all the heat stamp numbers.
Its apears to be a 491 C?

that would make it around April 1943 giving the possibility that this was originally a fixed bail shell ?

Ive just noticed that i seems to have dimples on the rim where the bails are which means this was indeed originally fixed bail

I think it could be a helmet used in the pacific because the inside looks like it was dipped into salt water a lot almost like if somebody was scooping water up with the helmet and pouring it on their head like to cool the person down.
...maybe. just a thought.
