Default WW2 USN DAMAGE CONTROL M1 w SEAMAN PAPER COMPNAY LINER

    Hi Guys
Here's a cool one ...always wanted one of these as I collect WW2 Navies these days. This is a McCord Helmet looks like its stamped 888 (or 688?) so early 1944 (or Before) if you believe the charts. What I liked about this one is it had its original OD3 Khaki straps which was rare for me to see on one of these and also that they are in pretty good shape. "REP 5" painted on front (Repair 5 I assume) and "AFT" which I assume was this sailors zone of control.

I paired this with a really nice Seaman Paper Company liner I found locally recently (looks like an Army Laundry Number on it though) though it probably predates the helmet perhaps. Ill have to check it out in my books when it would have been made. A nice salty old dog may go better with this helmet. Its liner strap was broken on one end.

Damage Control Units would spring into action on Navy Ships when they were hit by bombs, fire or even Kamikazes. They were painted bright red to denote their priority and responsibilities on Deck during these emergency times.

    Thanks for Looking!

Would be nicer if photographed properly in a light box though.

    Would you launder a helmet?

But seriously, great pick up. I like it a lot.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

I have a similar helmet. It is a rear seam Schlueter. The liner is a rough, mid-war Westinghouse, with a hole drilled in the crown, and an early double-wire sweatband.
