This morning a lovely little birdy flew through my letterbox.

This is a lovely example of a private purchase 1st pattern cap eagle for officer ranks. It weighs 16 grams and still has the original price on the reverse.

Here it is with some other 1st pattern eagles for comparison.

Very nice Jamie! that eagle is a big thick lump of metal, all 3 very nice. Out of interest how are these eagles attached to the wreath ? I've seen peened over posts are some soldered ? regards Paul

    Thanks Paul

They seemed to have used a few methods, I can see from mine that some are simply soldered on, others have the pins on the eagle which are then placed through holes in the wreath and thereafter soldered/heat treated in order to keep them in place.

I have a 2nd pattern officers eagle which simply has had the pins bent on the reverse to keep the birdy in place.
