An insignia book I have refers to these SS style police tabs as "war-time rank" and the more common style as prewar.
The orange Truppenfarbe was Gendarmerie.
I wonder how many black and white photos of wartime police with SS style tabs are actually coloured.

I've just never seen an example that wasn't police green...
Apparently they also came in white, as well as other colours.
Likewise, I have never seen this colour combination on post 1942 collar tabs.
According to the regulations which, after 10 February 1942 stated that Police Generals received combined Polizei/SS ranks, all embroidery was gold wire or golden celleon on light or dark green material.
The only exception to this colour rule was for Administrative Officials holding General rank, their patches were light grey.
The colour of the tab at the top of the page is attractive and interesting for sure, I just don't know where it fits in.
Cheers
Jamie
