    Default Mot. Gendarmerie Tunic

    Hello,

Presented here is a rather rare field tunic for a captain in the Moterized Gendarmerie. Pre war this branch functioned as a kind of rural traffic police, but with the start of the war most were transferred to control of the military and were the precursors of the Feldgendarmerie, which most eventually became.

Here is a view of the front. The tunic itself is a well worn field tunic in a course enlisted grade wool. Clearly this tunic was an early war tunic most probably used by an officer detailed to act as field police for the military.

A side view to better show the placement of the eagle and cuff title. Both appear to be originally sewn to this tunic. The officer's cuff title was clearly removed from another tunic and sewn down to this one as it is a bit short and the ends do not quite meet. I asume the wearer removed it from his nice pre-war civil tunic and attached it to this more sturdy enlisted tunic when he was sent off to assist the military.

A better view of the tabs and boards. His rank is "brevet", or "war time" captain as designated by the brown underlay to the boards.

And finally a view of the back showing the typical police pattern tunic with piped "tails", a tradition held over from the Imperial era.

    Thanks for looking.

This is the first time I have seen photos of an original Motorized Gendarmerie tunic. Fantastic!
