Hello, I noticed this Soviet ammo box from espenlaub militaria. It says it’s ww2. But is it? I know that these types of ammo boxes were used postwar.

If it's from Espenlaub, you have nothing to worry about. One of the most reputable dealers in the business, and a partner of this forum. If they say it's of WWII vintage, it's a pretty safe bet that it is.

Looks legit to me. They held belts of 7.62x54r for the 1910 maxim machine gun. Common in the ww2 Soviet army.

No hurry. You can find boxes like this one in better shape.
Mint WW2 boxes with the belt inside were sold in Ciney (Belgium) for less than 25,- Euros.
So keep searching.

Shouldn't the wartime boxes have woven fabric handles instead of the leather as seen in post # 7? I always thought these leather handles were postwar.
