SS Eagle - Presumed fake?

Hi all

I am clearing out some bits I have picked up over time and one of them is this supposed SS Eagle. I ended up getting it with a collection of other bits which were genuine and wasn't after this it was just included in the bunch. I have a feeling its a fake anyway but just thought it would be silly not to check with the experts first. If it is genuine I will look to move it on to fund other purchases, if its fake I will get rid.

On the rear there is a makers mark left of the breast, and on the right the number 40 in the wing.

What do people think?
