Many years ago, I obtained this banner from a widow from a WW2 veteran who brought this back from Germany, and she did not want it in the house any more after her husband passed. She recalls that he may have picked this up in Nuremburg or Munich. Sadly, there is no other information other than this was brought back by a Soldier..
I reached out to the late Ben K. Weed, one of most educated and scholarly friends I knew when it came to flags, not just Third Reich but all kinds of flags. Both he and I came to the conclusion that this is a Thule Society Banner with the mobile swastika (broken sun cross and other names) and other features. It is handmade, not a factory produced item and we carefully looked at the type of fabric and it is consistent with Third Reich era cloth and other materials.
The flag/banner dimensions are the following:
69 inches long, 42.5 inches wide the circle the swastika is in is 29.5 inches in diameter and it appears that at the top of the banner there is a fold where it may have hung from a podium. This is 5 inches wide. From the fold in the red material, if this did in fact hang from a podium then the length from the top of the banner to the top of the white circle and the bottom of the circle to the bottom of the red material is exactly 17 inches. There are indications that it was tacked to something.
The white roundel is sewn to the red material which looks and feels very much like other TR era flags. The center Rune is actually painted with gold flake paint and bordered with black ink.
You can see storage wear and stains where it appears that the paint may have bled.
A rather interesting banner for a society that had very early ties to the National Socialist Party.
