    B17 G "Little Chub".

It was attacked by the Swiss Flak fire on 24 April 1944 and ended up crashing in the waters of Lake Greifensee.

The plane remained under the cold waters of the lake until 1953, when local scrap dealer Martin Schaffner rescued him.

The American bomber was kept on display for some time but would later end up in the "crusher".

However, some pieces and small sections survived and are scattered throughout Switzerland.

This is one of the engines of the "Little Chub".

My photos of the warehouse visit.

    Excellent photo's

Little Chub was a 384th Bomb Group B-17.
Same Bomb Group and Squadron my uncle was in.(Shotdown 13 April 44)

It seems to be that this B-17 only flew 2 combat missions and this crash landing in the lake in Switzerland was its 2nd mission.
Here are some more pic's from the 384th website.

Awesome piece of information about your uncle.
There are many photos of little chub, mainly due to highly documentated recovery process.

    Anyway, thanks for reading Phil.
