The key factor here is the location. With that the French / Russian question can possibly be eliminated very quickly. As someone who identifys ammunition as a profession the size, location and markings are primary then any other detail. If you can provide those facts then the likelyhood of an accurate ID is far far greater. Oh, and it is a Label 8mm Round.

Brilliant. They are eastern front Berlin area so guessing Volksturm issue.

If Berlin then I would definitely need case length to eliminate the Russian 7.62X54mm.

A clean picture of the headstamp would clinch this one, perhaps along with a ruler or scale of some kind. Defo not Kurz rounds. From what I see they're Lebel rounds.
