Default Sherman relic on Iwo Jima

    Hi all,

Trawling about the internet, I found these photos of a Sherman sitting in the grass within the boundary of the US base on Iwo Jima - photos taken recently I believe. ( in the last few years ) It looks absolutely GREAT in situ like this but at the same time I can't help feeling the poor beastie needs to be rescued.
Does anyone know if it has??? or will it die a further "death by rust"

    Meantime, enjoy the vista!

    Nice relic M4 Dan.
Love the add on plank/concrete armor.
She's well preserved considering the salt air environment.
    Thanks for posting her mate

Dont see m4s like that anymore... few years ago you could find M4's on some military bases being used as target practice. I think they are scraped now.

Thanks for sharing the pic Danmark

Thanks for sharing this Dan. It's fascinating to see such evidence of WW2 combat still out there.

    Regards,

A Hobby Master 1/48th scale model for 'Comet' 4th Marine Tank Battalion Coy C (all tanks having ID names with the 1st letter matching the company letter) Iwo Jima Feb 1945-always a dilemma-leave it as a relic memorial or restore as a museum piece-the basic tank won't rust away easily due to the thickness and composition of armour plate steel but any things like stowage boxes go pretty quickly.

Have a check on this site, it will probably show you if this Sherman is still there.
