Buddy bought this for 1300 USD a little bit ago, what do you guys think about it? Paint over decal, so thinking possible field repaint if real. There is a repro liner in the helmet, which may explain cheaper price.

For the best chance of getting an answer please provide photos of all aspects of the exterior of the helmet, top, front, both sides. Head on photos of the decals. The liner and chinstrap. Closeups of any distinguishing features such as personalizations, camo, chinstrap markings. Lot number, maker and size.

I would also like to add that there is no chinstrap and the liner is reproduction. Sorry in advance, this is the only picture I was given from my friend.
Agree about the lack of pics and info, however that’s a poor reproduction decal.
Your buddy should get his money back
Oh dear. Unfortunately your friend was fleeced big time! Not only should they be asking for a refund, they should also name and shame the dealer so that other inexperienced collectors don’t fall into the same trap. Even if an original shell, that helmet is virtually worthless now with the fake camo paint. Tell your friend to post the helmet here before making their next purchase.

That's a howler for sure, from the decal and paint in the first picture it was looking bad. Fingers crossed the refund comes and name the dealer.

Your friend should have invested in research and reference material and reached out to folks who have original SS helmets before making such a huge purchase...
If he doesn't get his money back this will be a very hard lesson that hopefully he learns from....
