    I may well be completely wrong Nick but the '3's look different to me and also the '1's.
    I've attacjed a couple of Meybauer cores from Robert Pierce's ex collection with a couple of areas highlighted. Compare them with Carl's cross in the opening post.

    You have made some good observations there Adrian! Looking at the close ups of the dates in the book they look to be the dates on the earlier versions particularly the number '1'. The '3' however doesnt match but does look similar to the Schinkel '3'!
